What is it and how does it work?
Socrative is a free student response system that allows you to gather feedback from students through any Internet-connected device including tablets, laptops and smart phones. Click on the picture below to see a video to learn more about how Socrative works:
- Student Name
- Multiple choice question: How well did you understand material?
- Question: What did you learn today?
- Solve the problem on the board(teacher writes a question on the board related to the content and students type their answer)
When all the students have completed their exit tickets, the teacher will get a report about their answers.
In addition to creating quizzes, Socrative also allows teachers to make those quizzes into a fun, interactive game called Space Race. A space race is simply one of the quizzes you created with assigned teams. The teacher determines how many teams there will be. Then students answer questions. The team that answers the questions the fastest wins. The screen students see masks names, but as the teacher you can see your students' names and download a report of students' responses.
**Note: all activities(Quick Exercises, Exit Tickets and Quizzes/Space Race) do not start or stop until the teacher starts or stops them. This means teachers determine how long an activity is "open".
Interface changes
Socrative is easy to use and is quick. The interface for it,however, could be more intutive. The creators of Socrative realized this fact, so they have recently released a Socrative 2.0 version. With Socrative 2.0, you can do all the same things as the original Socrative but the interface is just more cleaner and intutive. Socrative 2.0 is in Beta, which means you may occassionally get a bug running it, but I experienced no issues with the site. As simple page refresh, usually clears up any "bugs". See below for a comparision:
