So in honor of Mr. Pearce and all the amazing teachers like him who do their best to inspire our students, today's tech snack will be done entirely as a comic. I unfortunately cannot draw at all so I made my comic using toondoo.com. Enjoy!
Greetings fellow educators! While working on my latest blog entry, I got inspired by the blog of another teacher. Chris Pearce is an educator in Chicago and he does an educational blog completely in comics! That's pretty awesome and amazing as he is an English teacher who happens to be a very talented artist, as well. If you want to check out Chris Pearce's blog, click on here.

Greeting fellow educators! I apologize for the lag in posts this month. This time of year in school can get quite hectic as we get our students adjusted to all the routines of the school year. So without further delay, let’s get to our next tech snack! Today’s tech snack can be found at the following url: https://www.quizalize.com/ What is it? Quizalize is a free game based classroom response system that allows you to gather feedback from students through any Internet-connected device including tablets, laptops and smart phones. Similar to other game based response systems like kahoot and quizizz, quizalize is an engaging way to have students review content. To begin using quizalize, you have to make a free teacher account. You can then create quizzes by adding questions for the students. You can make a quiz from scratch or copy an existing game from their marketplace. If you copy an existing game from their marketplace you can edit the contents to fit the needs of your students. After you have created your quiz, you can save it and then it can be used by your students. Sharing a quiz with students is easy. When you are ready to share the quiz, you simply click on share and then the system will ask you what class is the game for. If you haven’t created a class, you can simply click on the add a class feature. Adding a class just requires you to name the class ( example Biology 5). You do not need to add students names to the class nor do students need a username and password to access your quiz. Once you have created your class, you will be given a quiz game code. Students access the quiz, by going to the following link: https://live.zzish.com/student/code. Students then just put in the code and are ready to take your quiz.. So what’s the difference between this tool and other tools like Kahoot and Quizizz? All three tools can be used on any Internet enabled device and are free. All three give live results. With quizizz and quizalize, students quizzes can completed while in class or at home as homework. The main difference between this tool and others out there is that quizalize randomly puts students into two teams and they are competing against each other as teams not individuals. Teachers, however, can get individual results for each student and see which students are doing well or which students may be struggling with the content. You can then you this data to gear instruction and focus on the topics that students need help with rather than the content they have mastered. See the chart below to see a more in depth review about the similarities and differences between these three tools: Classroom implications:
All quiz results can be printed out as reports. Quizalize, therefore is a good formative assessment tool that you can use in your classroom to differentiate and personalize instruction. Since quizzes can be done at school or at home, it can be used to create flipped or blended learning environment. It is a great tool to use to help discover prior knowledge and experience. Delicious tech snack! Until next time at the café! |
