What is it?
Powtoon is a web based video creation tool. Similar to powerpoint, powtoon allows users to add pictures, transitions and animations unto slides. The slides then are put together to create online videos.
How does it work?
To begin using powtoon, you need to sign up for a free account. Signing up for an account does require the user to have an email account. Users must also create a password.
Once you have created an account, you can begin to create your online videos. You will be given a selection of templates to pick from. You can pick a template and then customize it to meet your needs or you can start with a blank canvas to create your own slides.
Powtoon uses a simple click and drag interface. All you have to do create a powtoon video is click and drag your items on your page. All the elements appear on the canvas for easy use. To learn more about how to use powtoon, check out the video link below:
More nitty gritty
Like many web 2.0 tools, this tool has free features as well as paid subscription features. The free features of this program, however, are pretty generous and for most student projects, the free features are pretty sufficient for quality videos. Powtoon even has a special subscription plan for educators. (click here to see the educator subscription plans) To compare and contrast the free vs paid features of this tool, check out the chart below:
