So in honor of all the wonderful art teachers out there, today’s tech snack is an art tool! Today’s tech snack can be found at the following url: http://www.picassohead.com/create.html .
So what is it?
Picassohead.com is a website that lets anyone create Picasso-like faces using elements of cubism. With this tool, students simply click and drag the elements to their canvas to create their faces. They can then print or email their creations.
Okay, so now that the disclaimers are out of the way, let us get into the way you can use this tool with your students. Before I begin, however, please note that this tool is not a replacement for the actual hands-on experience of creating your own cubist piece with different mediums/supplies.
Classroom implications
If you have an lcd projector in your class, you can use this tool to introduce a new unit about the cubist style. If you have access to devices like desktops or laptops, you could have students take turns creating their own online portraits. Then have students save their creations and print them out. Students can then use their creations as a visual guide/plan. With their print outs or online pictures in front of them, students can then use other mediums to make their ideas a reality( pastels, construction paper, magazine cuts, etc). Take a picture of the picassohead image and the recreation project side by side to show how students brought their ideas to life. Then share the picture of the two side by side items on class websites or blogs.
Ah a simple, easy to use tool. Let the creativity ensue!
